Mommy Makeover Series: Recovery
The only thing standing between you and your new body is your mommy makeover recovery. This is definitely our least favorite part of plastic surgery, but a necessary process if you want to rejuvenate your body after pregnancy and breastfeeding. The good news is, recovery is quick and soon you’ll be back on your feet and enjoying a new body. This guide will help you prepare for the recovery process.

Will I Need to Stay Overnight After a Mommy Makeover?
We know you’re anxious to get back home after your mommy makeover. Many patients can return home the same day as their procedure, often just a few hours after surgery. Some patients, including those receiving a Tummy Tuck 360, will need to spend the night at INSPIRE Surgery Center. Our goal is your safety and comfort during your recovery.
How Long Can I Expect to Be Down After a Mommy Makeover?
You will need some downtime after a mommy makeover. The amount of time needed will vary depending on the procedures chosen. We recommend that you get some help around the house and with your kids and that you take plenty of time off from work. Your timeline may vary, but here are some generalized expectations for recovery after a mommy makeover.
- The First 2-3 Days- During the first couple of days after a mommy makeover, rest is essential. You’ll likely need prescription pain medication to feel comfortable during this time. Get as much rest as possible. Take some time each day to go on a gentle walk. At first, it will be uncomfortable, but movement encourages circulation and helps your body to heal.
- The First Week- The first week is generally the most difficult part of the recovery process. You’ll likely have bruising, swelling, and discomfort. Pain medication can help you to feel better during this time.
- The First Couple of Weeks– Depending on the procedures you’ve received, you may feel up to returning to work, often during the second week after surgery. Innovative products like Exparel and TissuGlu have made recovery after tummy tuck much easier and faster. We are on our way to “pain free, drain free” tummy tucks.
- 6 weeks Post-Surgery- You’ll be able to return to more strenuous activities, like exercise. Your scars may still be pink or dark and noticeable, but otherwise, you’ll be back to most regular activities and will start to feel like yourself again. The scars will continue to fade and improve for 1 year after surgery.
