Micro-needling Q&A
Is micro-needling painful?
A topical anesthetic will be applied before treatment. This minimizes any discomfort during the treatment.
How many treatments of micro-needling will I need?
The number of treatments will depend on the type and severity of your skin issues and your desired goals. In your consultation, we will be able to advise how many treatment sessions you will need to achieve younger, healthier looking skin!
Am I a good candidate for micro-needling?
If you are experiencing any of the skin concerns we’ve discussed, you might be a good candidate for micro-needling. Since micro-needling is minimally-invasive and uses needles instead of heat, it is safe for all skin types and tones, including dark skin tones. Schedule a consultation in our Austin office and we will be able to determine if micro-needling is the right treatment for you.
When do I see results from micro-needling?
Optimal results will depend on how many micro-needling treatments you receive. With each treatment you will see an improvement in your skin, but it may take multiple treatments to achieve the end result you are looking for. Often times micro-needling is combined with other treatments to optimize the results.
Is micro-needling safe?
Micro-needling is extremely safe and adaptable for each and every person. The needles penetrate the top level of the skin, the epidermis, and into the mid-dermis, where collagen is stimulated. The depth is precisely controlled, so deeper structures are not at risk. Because of this, it can be used on areas that are usually difficult to treat such as the skin around the eyes. We do not recommend at home micro-needling as these needles are too short to stimulate any real change in the skin and the needles on at home rollers cannot be sterilized, thereby increasing the risk of infection and scarring.
What is recovery like after micro-needling?
Recovery after micro-needling is pretty minimal. You don’t have to plan for any extended downtime after the procedure. You might experience some redness after the treatment, but that should subside within a few days.
What types of skin damage does micro-needling treat?
Micro-needling can treat many skin concerns. Some of the benefits are:
- Improving skin texture
- Reducing the visibility of acne and other scars
- Diminishing the presence of stretch marks
- Improving fine lines and wrinkles
- Minimizing the appearance of pores
- Approving the visual signs of sun damage
- Increasing the absorption of topical treatments and serums on the skin
How does micro-needling work?
Micro-needling actually uses tiny needles to create microscopic wounds in your skin. Your skin cells react to this planned and controlled injury but stimulating collagen production to heal the microscopic wounds. The creation of this new collagen is what will give your skin a plump, youthful appearance. Another great thing about micro-needling is that we can apply certain topical medications over the area to get deeper penetration of the products. The possibilities are endless.
