Help! My Breast Implants Are Different Sizes

Breast-implant-exchangeYou got breast augmentation, but unfortunately your results aren’t quite what you were expecting. Dr. Reid and Dr. Gordon often perform breast revision surgeries on patients that had breast augmentation elsewhere and are unhappy with their results. Breast asymmetry, or breasts that look like they are different sizes, is a common reason for revision surgery. If your breast size is uneven after implants, come see us to explore your options. Our goal is to make your breast implant revision surgery the last one you will need.

Why Are My Breasts Uneven?

A poorly done initial breast augmentation is one potential reason for breast asymmetry after breast augmentation, but it isn’t the only one. The breasts have a natural asymmetry and aren’t mirror images of each other. In addition, your natural breast volume changes over the course of a lifetime. After breastfeeding, some women notice that their breasts are no longer the same size or shape. Changing out one or both implants can correct this asymmetry.

Tell Me More About Implant Exchange for Asymmetry

For patients needing an implant exchange to correct asymmetry, we’ll remove one or both implants and replace them with new implants that match more closely. If it has been a while since your initial augmentation, you may want to exchange both implants. Modern implants are stronger and longer lasting than older implants; changing them now could save you from another surgery later from a rupture or leak.

Most patients find that an implant exchange surgery is much less uncomfortable than their original breast augmentation surgery. Recovery times are often shorter and easier. We can give you a better idea of what to expect during your consultation.

Is Asymmetry the Only Reason to Consider an Implant Exchange?

Asymmetry isn’t the only reason for a secondary breast augmentation. We tell patients considering primary augmentation to plan on at least one additional surgery. Implants don’t last forever and complications may arise requiring an additional surgery. Some common reasons for implant exchange include:

  • Size Change
  • Implant Malpostition
  • Ruptured Implant
  • Rippling/Wrinkling
  • Capsular Contracture
  • Bottoming Out

Why are you considering an implant exchange?

You loved your implants once and we want you to love them again. Breast implant revision surgery can help you rediscover perky, symmetrical breasts. Call and schedule your consultation today.
