Chin Augmentation

A genioplasty addresses excess projection or issues with chin height. If the chin is asymmetrical, extremely small or disproportionately large, the bone needs to be repositioned to create a proportionate chin projection and height necessary for facial harmony. By making a cut in the bone through an incision in the mouth, the jaw and chin can be moved up, down, backwards or forwards. The bone is then secured into its new position with plates and screws and allowed to heal like any other fracture. A liquid or soft diet is required for a week after surgery, and you can expect to be back at work after one week.

Implants can add projection to the chin and enhance facial contours. A solid implant is placed over the bone through a small incision either inside the mouth or under the chin.
Surgery is performed as an outpatient and recovery time is usually one week.

Fillers such as Voluma, Juvederm, Radiesse and Sculptra can be used to refine the chin and jawline. Off label injection of small amounts of filler in precise locations can control the shape and contour of the chin and jawline and can even camouflage the dreaded jowls. Results can last for one to two years depending on the type of product used. Fat grafting also works great in this application, and results can last several years.
