5 Things to Know Before a Breast Augmentation Procedure

Before your breast augmentation, prepare yourself by learning the essentials. These five important truths will benefit any breast augmentation patient.

Are My Expectations Realistic?

We want you to love your breasts after breast augmentation. Work closely with your surgeon to understand what your results will look like. Every woman is different and your “breast-print” is too. Your breast shape, breast spacing, sagging, etc. will impact your end results. Understanding what results we can achieve and what procedures are needed to make it happen will help to ensure your happiness after surgery.

Cup Size Is Only One Part of the Equation

What cup size do you hope for after breast augmentation? Forget about cup size and worry about look instead. What do you hope to look like after breast augmentation? Bring in pictures of your “wish” breasts to your consultation.

Your Breasts Will Change for Several Months After Surgery

You should be fully healed from your breast augmentation about six weeks after surgery, but that doesn’t mean your breasts won’t change. In the months following your surgery, your implants will settle and drop into position. You’ll see a major difference in the appearance of your breasts right after surgery, but it may take a few months to see your final result.

The Right Surgeon Matters

Choose your breast augmentation surgeon carefully. Any licensed doctor can perform breast augmentation, but not all are actually qualified. If you’re in the Austin, Texas area, come into Restora Austin and work with our board-certified surgeons, Dr. Reid and Dr. Gordon. If you’re not able to come see us, look for board-certification, a quality education, and years of training and experience in aesthetic plastic surgery.

Breast Implants Are Low Maintenance, Not No Maintenance

Breast implants are very easy to take care of. We’ll give you all the details about caring for your implants after your surgery.

  • Self Exams– Your breasts will feel different after breast augmentation. Once you’re fully healed, get familiar with your new breasts. We recommend regular self-checks for every woman, even those with breast implants.
  • Mammograms– You can, and should, get mammograms with breast implants, if you’re at the age where you need them. Let the imaging center know that you have implants when you schedule your appointment and tell the technician when you go in.
  • Leak Checks– Leaks are uncommon with newer, modern implants, but they do still happen. If you have saline implants, you’ll easily spot a leak as your breast will deflate. Women with silicone implants may need occasional imaging tests to spot leaks and ruptures.
  • Regular Exams– Don’t forget about regular breast checks from your doctor. Most women need these once a year.
